For two decades, Mary Swan has led one of the UK’s most ambitious and productive commissioning theatre companies.
As Creative Director at Proteus Theatre Company, Mary has staged dozens of dynamic and inspiring theatre shows, developed at the company’s home, the Creation Space in Basingstoke.
Many have toured nationally.
An accomplished playwright and actor, as well as stage director, Mary wrote and performed the one-woman show “I’m Super, Thanks”, about what it means to be a woman over forty, set in the world of superheroes.

Mary Swan hosts Indestructible
Mary’s latest show, Indestructible, goes on stage in January 2024, and features a cast and crew of long-term collaborators, including Mary Rose, Danny Charles, Saul Jaffe and Paula Varjack.
The stage show will go on tour in Autumn 2024.
Mary also hosts the podcast Indestructible, which explores themes of gender power and exploitation in the art world.
